Those who spread misinformation online will be caught – Signals Bureau

The Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, Dr. George Atta Boateng, has warned individuals who use social media platforms to spread false information that they will be tracked down and prosecuted.

According to Dr. Atta Boateng, the agency has enhanced its operational capabilities to identify and apprehend those who misuse platforms such as TikTok and Facebook.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Bureau’s new facility on Tuesday, October 8, he issued a strong warning to offenders.

“Those who hide behind TikTok and Facebook to spread misinformation and disinformation, to incite violence, to cause anarchy and chaos, we will come after you, no matter where you are.”

Highlighting the Bureau’s growing efficiency, Dr. Atta Boateng noted that their response times have improved significantly in recent years.

“Initially it used to take us 24 hours, now it’s coming down to 12 hours,” he noted.

He pointed to several recent operations as evidence of the Signal Bureau’s effectiveness in intelligence and security coordination.

“Our record speaks for itself. Through coordinated international efforts, our officers rescued two Ghanaian women who were kidnapped in Nigeria,” he revealed.

He added, “Here at home, our surveillance and intelligence teams successfully dismantled and arrested members of a cyber fraud syndicate in Wa, Wenchi and Techiman that had duped a prominent chief of more than one million cedis.”

Dr. Atta Boateng emphasized that the Bureau’s work goes beyond technical operations, describing their efforts as a direct contribution to public safety and national trust.

He stated that these are not just operations but rather real stories of lives saved, justice served, and trust restored.
