Founder and Leader of the National Liberation Congress (NLC), Stephen Atubiga, has made statements declaring that politics is a business.
According to him, there is no politician who doesn’t take money.
Speaking to GHOne reporters on September 25, Stephen Atubiga alleged that deals are regularly struck regarding political matters.
“There’s no politician that doesn’t take money. They should go to Parliament House and look, before ministers are being passed, before Parliament takes certain decisions, be it NDC or NPP in opposition, there is always a deal,” he said.
According to him, running a political party requires significant resources.
“In politics it’s not only about money, it’s about the country, but besides the country too I have a party to run. Do they know what it takes to run a party?” he asked.
The NLC founder said the party supports the ruling government when it makes good decisions but will not hesitate to ‘spit fire’ at them if they do wrong.
Atubiga stressed that financial exchanges are part of the system.
“As for whether we’ve taken money or not, we are eating. We are still taking money. I want everyone to understand, politics is business, politics has a common goal, it has external and internal interests,” he said.
He further urged Ghanaians to understand their role in the political process.
“After election, there is a country to run. And the winner must pull all political parties along. And we have chosen the government to deliver good governance,” he explained.
He added, “After voting, you’re done. It’s left with we the opposition either to support the government or keep them on their toes.”
“Stop worrying about what Atubiga takes. I will feed. God created the Devil, the Devil has been feeding with God till date, so why shouldn’t I?” Stephen Atubiga questioned.
