Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Assin South MP, has finally spoken out after the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) tried to arrest him at his home on Wednesday, April 9, 2024.
The dramatic siege triggered outrage among MPs and party executives, who rushed to his residence to block the arrest and protect the vocal lawmaker.
The incident stems from Rev. Ntim Fordjour’s bold claims about two suspicious flights landing at Kotoka International Airport. He alleged the circumstances suggested possible drug trafficking and money laundering, stirring controversy and drawing the government’s attention.
After the NIB retreated, Rev. Ntim Fordjour addressed the situation following a press conference by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin. “The truth shall stand,” he declared, standing firm amid the tension.
Meanwhile, Afenyo-Markin slammed the government over the attempted arrest. Speaking to Newsdesksgh.com, he called the move unnecessary and vowed resistance unless authorities act with respect.
“They’ve left and gone back where they came from. We’ll cooperate if they approach us decently—we won’t be intimidated. We’re few but a strong, united group,” he said.
The standoff has heightened friction between the government and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). Afenyo-Markin stressed that Rev. Ntim Fordjour, a key figure in parliament, has the full backing of his colleagues.
