The committee is satisfied with Justice Baffoe-Bonnie - Appointments Committee Chairman

Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, has commended Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie and expressed satisfaction in the nominee as Chief Justice.

According to him, the committee was satisfied that the nominee possessed the right qualification, temperament, and commitment to the values expected of a Chief Justice.

Speaking in Parliament on November 13, Mr. Ahiafor noted that all New Patriotic Party (NPP) members of the committee had indicated before the vetting that they would vote against the nominee.

He explained that the committee, acting in accordance with Article 144(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Order 217 of the Standing Orders of Parliament, then proceeded to examine the nominee’s qualifications and suitability for the role.

“The committee notes that the nominee demonstrated outstanding competence, a very deep knowledge of the law, and a firm grasp of judicial ethics,” he said.

Bernard Ahiafor added that Justice Baffoe-Bonnie responded to all questions posed by the committee with precision and professionalism.

“He addressed questions posed by the committee with professionalism, clarity and intellectual rigour, reflecting his capacity to uphold the independence, integrity and dignity of the highest court of the land.”

He stressed again that the Minority MPs opposed the nominee and walked out of the vetting after Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin had finished his welcome address.

“The committee is satisfied that the nominee possesses the requisite qualification, judicial temperament and commitment values expected of Chief Justice of true Republic of Ghana.”

“The committee therefore will recommend to the house by majority decision the adoption of the report of the approval of Justice Paul baffoe bonnie of the Republic of Ghana.”
