Support Fund launched for children of helicopter crash victims

President John Dramani Mahama has established a Children’s Support Fund to ensure the welfare and support of the children left behind by the 8 victims of the tragic August 6 military helicopter crash.

President Mahama announced the establishment of this fund on Friday, August 15, and it has since received an amount of two million, three hundred and fifteen thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢2,315,000).

In a public notice dated Tuesday, August 19 2025, Government expressed gratitude to Stanbic Bank for contributing an initial seed donation of GH¢500,000.

They thanked other companies that have also joined in with donations, namely Procus GH Limited, GB Foods Ghana, Sunda FM Manufacturing Ltd, Sage Distribution Ltd, Quantum Oil Terminals, Quantum LPG Logistics Ltd, Newgas Cylinder Ltd and Quantum Terminals PLC.

The statement further mentioned how to go about making donations to the Children’s Support Fund.

“Donations may be made to the Fund via the following Stanbic Bank Limited Accounts (Stanbic Heights Branch, Accra):

Ghana Cedi (GHS): 9040013628372

US Dollar (USD): 9040013628534

Cheques and bank drafts should be made payable to: CHILDREN SUPPORT FUND 6825.”

They also stated that a weekly donor list will be published for transparency.

The initiative is meant to secure the future of the children of the 8 fallen heroes who perished in a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash on 6th August in Adansi Akrofuom, plunging the state into a sense of mourning.

They were Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence; Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress; Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
