Sam George, the Minister-designate for Communications, has reaffirmed his commitment to reintroducing the controversial Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill in Parliament, framing it as a crucial step in defending Ghanaian family values and protecting children from what he describes as harmful influences.
His statement comes in response to recent remarks by former President John Dramani Mahama, who proposed that a government-backed bill would be more effective than the current Private Member’s Bill. Mahama emphasized that such an initiative would allow for wider consultations and promote national consensus, ensuring the bill reflects the collective will of Ghanaians.
During a meeting with Bishops on January 14, President Mahama also underscored the importance of revising school curriculums to better reflect moral and cultural teachings rooted in Ghanaian and African traditions.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 30, Sam George made it clear that he would continue to champion the bill, stating, “This Bill is a critical part of our national lives, protecting Ghanaian family values and ensuring the safety of our innocent children. Whether as a private member’s bill or a government bill, I will ensure its reintroduction in this 9th Parliament.”
