Sam George sues NPP activist Mr. P.K. Sarpong for GH₵5 million over defamatory post

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George has sued a New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist Mr. P.K. Sarpong popularly known as Whispers for defamation.

Sam George is demanding for retraction, an injunction against the defendant and a GH₵5 million as general damages.

This comes barely two weeks after Sam George through his legal representatives Korsah & Ackah Law accused Mr. Sarpong of making a “categorically false” claim that the MP received a Lexus vehicle as a gift in violation of a directive by president John Dramani Mahama to his ministers.

The defendant was told by the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram Constituency to immediately remove the alleged false post from his Facebook wall; issue a public retraction of the statement to the same audience; offer an unqualified apology to the minister.

Despite the earlier caution, Sam George has not proceeded to the court as Mr. P.K Sarpong refused to take down the post and apologise for his actions.

“The Plaintiffs Claim is for: Wherefore, the Plaintiff claims against Defendant as follows: A declaration that the statements published by the Defendant are defamatory of the Plaintiff”

“The sum of Five Million Ghana Cedis (GHC5,000,000.00) as general damages, including aggravated and/or exemplary damages, for the libel published by the Defendant; A perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant from publishing any further defamatory statements concerning the Plaintiff,” part of the writ read.
