Power outages still a problem despite government assurances – PEF Boss

The CEO of the Private Enterprise Federation (PEF), Nana Osei Bonsu, has raised concern over recent claims by the government that the country’s electricity situation has stabilised despite continued irregular power supply and its impact on businesses.

Nana Osei Bonsu mentioned that the reality on the ground for many businesses is different from what is being presented by government officials.
“What we’re hearing from businesses across the country is very different from what the government is saying. The power supply is still unreliable, and it’s taking a serious toll on operations,” he said.
Nana Osei Bonus’s concerns are shared by many in different industries and sectors, in light of the unscheduled power cuts that disrupt operations and increase the cost of energy due to increased reliance on generators by SME’s.

Osei Bonsu noted that for small and medium enterprises, irregular power supply poses a serious threat to the continuity of their businesses.
“Many SMEs do not have the resources to absorb the cost of alternative power. Every hour without electricity is a potential loss of revenue, productivity, and customer trust,” he added.
Business leaders are advocating for a more transparent solution, despite government claims that their current efforts to stabilize the power grid are effective
“We need urgent and honest dialogue. Businesses are ready to be part of the solution, but we need to start by acknowledging the problem,” Mr. Bonsu stressed.

PEF has urged authorities to interact more directly with the private sector and engage in honest dialogue with regards to power supply schedules and infrastructural improvements.
