People asked me for money to do abortion – Minister for Youth Development

Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment George Opare Addo has shared some of the requests he received during his time as a parliamentary candidate in the Okere constituency.

George Opare Addo who is also National Youth Organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), disclosed that among the many demands he faced, one of the most surprising was being asked for money to fund abortions.

Speaking on Joy FM on September 12, the minister admitted that this was something he had learn to adjust to.

“Where I was coming from nobody comes to ask you for anything. You wake up in the morning and there is nobody at your door,” he explained.

He said the kind of demands and requests he used to receive were of a wide variety, ranging from paying of school fees to requests for money for abortions.

“People coming to ask you money for abortion,” he said with laughter, “you will be amazed some of the things they come to demand.”

He further said the unusual demands did not end with his parliamentary candidacy and people continue to approach him with different requests.

“And it is not just there, even when I became national youth organizer. The demands were in various forms, people come and ask for different things,” he stressed.
