Management of Pelican Hotel says the facility is playing a key role in strengthening Ghana’s hospitality industry by focusing on guest experience, service customisation and strategic location, despite operating for less than six months.
According to the hotel, travellers are increasingly prioritising comfort, safety and personalised experiences, a shift that has influenced how Pelican positions itself within Accra’s competitive hospitality space.
Speaking at a soirée held at the Pelican Hotel on January 6, the Head of Sales, Solomon Willie-Wollimoh, said the hotel’s approach to service delivery has enabled it to compete favourably with established brands.
“When people travel now they’re looking for experiences. They’re looking for emotional safety.“

Mr. Willie-Wollimoh noted that although the hotel has been operational for less than six months, it has already gained significant market traction.
“We have just been opened for less than 6 months and already we have market in all dimensions.”
He cited industry performance indicators, including the FDR reporting system, the Revenue Generation Index and the Market Penetration Index, stating that the hotel has outperformed competitors across all three benchmarks.
“We beat the whole market, the whole industry. Including the big brands that you know about.”
He explained that Pelican Hotel places strong emphasis on personalised guest service, treating each visitor as an individual rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach.
“We don’t treat two people the same way. We have to make sure we customise the services that comes to each and every one.”
Mr. Willie-Wollimoh also highlighted the hotel’s strategic location at Cantonments, directly opposite St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School, noting its proximity to the airport and ease of access to different parts of Accra.

He further explained that many international travellers prefer accommodation close to the airport for security reasons.
“Our location is prime because anywhere in the world when you’re talking about a hotel the location is key. For us, we’re the best located hotel in the city. Accessibility, and proximity.”
“Over 90% of guests that stay in hotels in Accra it is very important, because at the back of the mind their security agencies advise them ‘you need to stay close to the airport so in case of anything you could quickly run to the airport’, “
However, he added that he is privileged to have access to vital information by American security agencies who rate the safety of countries, and Ghana remains a safe destination.
He went on, “You could ask your colleagues, your friends you know in all the other hotels ‘who are you afraid of in the city?’ They will mention our name. And we didn’t come to play.”
“We promise comfort, tranquility and privacy,” he added.
Also speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer of Devtraco Group, Francis Oko Okai, dismissed claims that real estate development in Ghana is linked to money laundering.

“In recent times we heard some statements by some Ghanaian appointees saying real estate business is a money laundering business in Ghana which clearly is not true.”
He said there are legitimate Ghanaian businesses engaged in real estate development and that Pelican Hotel is a demonstration of genuine local investment.
“This event is designed to showcase our achievement for the development of the Pelican hotel as a fully owned Ghanaian hotel and an addition to Accra hospitality landscape,”
Speaking to NewsDeskGH, Mr. Oko Okai said the hotel is also contributing to employment creation within the hospitality sector.
“Currently, the Pelican employs over 200 Ghanaians within the hospitality space.”
He disclosed that the hotel had its soft opening in April 2025, followed by a grand opening in September 2025, adding that it is not yet operating at full capacity.
“As it stands now the hotel is not operating at full capacity so potentially, eventually, there is going to be more opportunities for Ghanaians to work here.”

Pelican Hotel, developed by Devtraco Plus, has over 130 rooms, a swimming pool, gym, restaurants and event-friendly spaces, catering to a wide range of guests and occasions.
