Over 200 cases under investigations, Looters will not escape – President Mahama

The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has assured that individuals implicated in corruption and the looting of state resources will not go unpunished.

According to him, the government is adhering to due process and is currently actively investigating over 200 cases.

Speaking in his First media encounter of his 2nd term in Office on the evening of September 10, Mahama assured that although progress may appear slow, justice will be delivered.

“My friends, I understand that public accountability and the recovery of looted state resources are at the top of your expectations from my government, and let me assure you, my fellow citizens, that we’ve not wavered in our commitment for even a moment,” he said.

President Mahama explained, “What you are witnessing is not inaction, it is unsteadfast adherence to due diligence, due process and fairness in the pursuit of justice.”

According to him, this approach may give some temporary relief to wrongdoers but he insisted that it will not grant them permanent escape.

President Mahama revealed that over 200 cases are currently under active investigation under Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).

He disclosed that about 80 people have already been interrogated, with several cases at various stages of prosecution.

The president then went on to give updates about some major cases such as the Adu Boahen case, the Skytrain case, National Service Authority case among others.

“In the republic versus Adu Boahene and 3 others, the state has submitted witness statements together with all other documents and trial has commenced,”

“With the skytrain case, the prosecuters have secured a trial date,“

“For the National Service Authority due to its expansive nature charges have been drafted and will be filed as soon as the legal year begins,”

“For the National Cathedral, we are awaiting a forensic audit from the Auditor General,”

“Charges have been drafted and are ready for filing in the case of republic versus Wontumi,”

“Investigations are ongoing into the African Cup of Nations case, the math’s set case and approximately 20 other cases currently,” he stated.

President Mahama emphasized that every single corruption-related matter that requires investigation is receiving due attention, and that once sufficient evidence is uncovered, prosecution will follow swiftly.

“Every single case of corruption that needs to be investigated is being looked into and once evidence is found to ground prosecution that will happen and happen swiftly,” he assured.
