Nyaho Tamakloe Blasts NPP Leadership Over ‘Rushed’ Peace Pact Ahead of Flagbearer Race

A senior figure within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho-Nyaho Tamakloe, has launched a scathing attack on the party’s leadership, accusing it of imposing decisions from the top and undermining internal democracy ahead of the party’s flagbearer election.

According to Dr. Tamakloe, the peace pact signed by NPP presidential aspirants on January 22 was hastily orchestrated and risks damaging the credibility of the party’s January 31 primary rather than uniting it.

Five aspirants last Thursday pledged to conduct a peaceful and transparent contest, but Dr. Tamakloe argues the move merely glosses over deep-seated fractures within the party.

Speaking on 3FM’s Hot Edition, the veteran politician warned that the upcoming primary could inflict serious harm on the NPP if longstanding grievances among disillusioned party members are ignored.

He did not spare former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, whom he blamed for presiding over the deterioration of party cohesion.

“The so-called top-down approach is a direct assault on party democracy and a recipe for growing discontent,” Dr. Tamakloe said. “It is a very unfortunate situation.”

He stressed that unresolved issues from before and after the 2024 general elections continue to fester, insisting that the peace pact diverts attention from the real problems.

“These fundamental issues have not been tackled. Instead, this pact is being used as a distraction,” he added.

Dr. Tamakloe further cautioned that the rushed nature of the process could backfire spectacularly.

“This entire exercise is being hurried, and it will undoubtedly compromise the integrity of the January 31 election. Mark my words—the Electoral College process could collapse because it is built on weak leadership and a blatant disregard for due process,” he warned.

He also decried what he described as the steady dismantling of the party by a select few and urged respected party elders to intervene before it is too late.

“This party is being destroyed by a handful of individuals. Where are the elders who once stood firm for its values? It is time they woke up,” he said.

Dr. Tamakloe further criticised the reconciliation process for excluding individuals he described as the true pillars of the NPP.

“Why were people like Kwame Pianim—the real backbone of this party—not invited? What about Arthur Kennedy and Frimpong Boateng? These are men who are not in politics for money but for service. Until such people are brought back into the fold, this party has no future,” he warned.
