The Acting Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Abraham Amaliba, has criticised the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), and is urging them to focus on policy analysis and offering alternatives to Ghanaians rather than remaining in what he describes as post-election loss denial.
According to him, the New Patriotic Party needs to move beyond its disappointment over the 2024 electoral defeat and properly reassess its policy direction.
Speaking on TV3 Ghana as monitored by NewsDesksGH on February 26, he defended the performance of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration and expressed frustration at criticisms from the New Patriotic Party.
“I think that if you listen to the NPP, it’s a case of Deja vu. In the sense that, they’re still reeling in pain from having lost the last elections. They’re in self denial, they’ve not yet gone through all the processes of healing.”
He added, “By the time they get to the last stage of healing which is accommodation, this country would have gone past their way of thinking. And that will affect them in the coming elections.”
Mr. Amaliba further suggested that the party has been misreading the reasons behind its electoral loss.
“They have indicated that people didn’t go out to vote for Bawumia. They should continue tickling themselves in that direction, and forget to do proper analysis of policies and give out alternatives to the people of this country.”
He argued that voters made a conscious choice based on their assessment of the party’s flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“You have a bad product, and Ghanaians can see through. And that’s why they voted the way they voted.”
Abraham Amaliba then rated President John Dramani Mahama’s first year in office an eight out of ten, stating that while significant progress has been made, there remains more work to be done.
