A member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries, Kwesi Nyantakyi, says his interactions with party delegates suggest strong grassroots support for the former Assin Central Member of Parliament ahead of the January 31, 2026 contest.
Kwesi Nyantakyi, a Ghanaian lawyer, banker, and former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), made the remarks while responding to opinion polls and surveys that place former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the lead.
In an interview on Joy News and monitored by NewsDesksGH on January 6, he said his direct involvement in the campaign, particularly in Northern Ghana, gives him confidence in Agyapong’s chances.
“From where I sit, I have been deeply involved in the campaign of Kennedy Agyapong. I have played the role of a campaign director for the 5 Northern regions so I have had the opportunity to visit at least 51 out of the 57 constituencies in Northern Ghana,” he said.
Kwesi Nyantakyi noted that his engagements with party delegates have been extensive and personal.
“I’ve interacted with at least 3,000 out of the 36,450 delegates in the 5 Northern regions and the impression I get is that Kennedy is loved by the delegates. That’s about 10 percent.”
He further explained that his assessment is based not only on face-to-face interactions but also wider communication across the regions.
“I’m saying at least. I’ve dealt with at least 3,000 of delegacy, directly. Indirectly, through phones and other mediums of communication, probably another 3,000 or 4,000,” he said.
Based on these interactions, Nyantakyi expressed strong confidence in Ken Agyapong’s prospects at the polls.
“That has emboldened my belief that Kennedy will win this election on 31st January 2026,” he added.
Kwesi Nyantakyi also attributed Agyapong’s appeal to what he described as his authenticity and connection with ordinary people.
He said Kennedy Agyapong has empathy and sympathy for people, adding that when you interview ordinary people on the street, the consensus is that he speaks the truth and likes people.
The New Patriotic Party is scheduled to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, as it prepares to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
While some polls have suggested a victory for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, some polls such as that of Sanity Africa suggested a 53.1% lead for Kennedy Agyapong.
