Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe and former Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, says he is comfortable being underestimated in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential race, insisting that his strategy remains unknown to his competitors.
According to him, his engagement with party delegates shows that their concerns are no different from those of ordinary Ghanaians, with a strong focus on opportunities for their children and sustainable job creation.
Speaking on Joy News on January 17, 2026, and monitored by NewsDesksGH, Dr. Adutwum said, “I like to be the underdog. I like to be underestimated. Nobody knows my strategy, and I’m going to say it here.”
He explained that delegates respond positively when he outlines practical development plans, including what he described as a potential golden age of job creation and the establishment of information technology hubs across the country.
“The bottom line is that when I talk to the delegates, they are just like other Ghanaians. They’re looking for opportunities for their children,” he said.
Addressing concerns about campaign financing, Dr. Adutwum acknowledged that he may not have the same financial muscle as some of the other contenders but stressed that he is receiving growing support from within and outside Ghana.
“People are supporting. There are many people who have visited Dr. Adutwum website and they are supporting around the world. They want to see a new kind of politics,” he stated.
He then pointed to the work of the Yaw Osei Adutwum Foundation as evidence of his development-oriented leadership, noting that more than 150 students have been sponsored to study Engineering and Medicine.
“Look at the Bosomtwe miracle as people call it. 93 engineers graduated in the last two years from one constituency. Fully sponsored through Yaw Osei Adutwum foundation. Accommodation taken care of, school fees paid, stipend to take care of their feeding,” he said.
Dr. Adutwum described the initiative as a model for national development, adding, “It’s a good example of what can happen in this country.”
He further urged party delegates to prioritise electability in choosing a flagbearer for the 2026 general elections.
“When you are electing a flagbearer, you’re electing someone who can win the general elections. That should be the focus of the delegates and that’s the case we make with them. That look at Dr. Adutwum, look at my handiwork,” he stressed.
Dr. Adutwum is one of five candidates contesting the New Patriotic Party presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The others are Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong
