Aspiring National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has touted his track record within the party as evidence that he is the right person to lead the NPP at the national level.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, the Ashanti Regional Chairman urged delegates to prioritise competence, commitment and proven results when electing the party’s next National Chairman.
“When it comes to the National Chairmanship, we should vote based on commitment and competence,” he said.
Chairman Wontumi argued that his journey through the ranks of the party sets him apart from other contenders. According to him, he became the first constituency chairman in the Ashanti Region to rise to the position of regional chairman and subsequently played a key role in the NPP’s return to power.
“I am also the first constituency chairman in the Ashanti Region to become regional chairman who brought the party to power,” he stated.
The NPP chairman hopeful also highlighted what he described as a potential historic achievement should delegates entrust him with the party’s highest organisational office.
“No one from the Ashanti Region has become National Chairman. I will be the first,” he declared.
He maintained that his election would make history as the first time a party member who served as both constituency chairman and regional chairman in the NPP’s electoral stronghold would ascend to the National Chairmanship.
“I will be the person who has been constituency chairman and regional chairman who would become National Chairman from our stronghold,” he said.
Chairman Wontumi said his extensive experience at the grassroots, constituency and regional levels has equipped him with the knowledge and leadership skills needed to rebuild the party and position it for victory in the next general election.
