NACOC steps up surveillance across clubs, pubs and public events during Christmas festivities

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intensified surveillance across clubs, pubs and public events nationwide as part of efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking during the Christmas season.

According to the Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations of the Narcotics Control Commission, PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah, the Commission is already preparing targeted swoops based on intelligence gathered on suspected locations.

Speaking on GhOne TV and monitored by NewsDesksGH on December 24, he said the operations form part of a broader strategy to clamp down on drug distribution and use in the country, particularly during festive periods.

“Especially this Christmas, what we’re going to do is that we’re going to do a lot of swoops. This year alone we’ve done about 11 swoops in different parts of the country.”

PNCO Opoku Amoah warned that NACOC is monitoring specific venues and individuals and will act swiftly when the time is right.

“Wherever you go, whether it’s a party, a pub. The good thing is that we have the names, we have the places that people are doing those things and in no time we’ll strike.”

He assured the public that NACOC will provide updates whenever such operations are carried out to ensure transparency and public awareness.

He added that they are also encouraging members of the public to volunteer information that could aid investigations, stressing that public cooperation remains critical in the fight against drug abuse.

“If you go to some of these places and you sense that you can smell a whole different air, if you’re smelling something and you know that it’s different from your cigarette and all of that, what we’re saying is like what the National Security said some time ago, if you see something, say something.”

PNCO Amoah further reminded the public that smoking cigarettes in public places is now illegal unless done in designated smoking areas.
