Miss Intercontinental Ghana withdrew my daughter’s crown because of her looks – mother of 2025 winner

The mother of Miss Intercontinental Ghana 2025, Queen Stephanie Chiaky Otuteye, has accused pageant organisers of withdrawing her daughter’s crown over concerns about her physical appearance, despite her being duly crowned winner at the grand finale.

According to her mother and co-manager, Rose Sam Austin, the title was revoked just days after the finale.

Speaking in an interview with content creator Mr Showbiz, she recounted that on November 8, 2025 the finale of the competition took place at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, where Stephanie Chiaky Otuteye emerged winner and received a crown and a brand-new car, with expectations of a cash prize and an all-expenses-paid trip to Egypt to represent Ghana internationally.

“She got a prize of the crown, a vehicle and we were expecting some cash prize as well. Most importantly, an all expenses paid trip to Egypt to represent Ghana on the Miss Intercontinental platform.”

She added that a few days after the event, she contacted the organisers to discuss preparations for the international trip, noting that her daughter is a medical doctor and needed to plan ahead.

“Less than 3 days after the discussion I received a message from my daughter that the pageant organisation that’s management, wants to meet us,” she stated.

She said the meeting took place was between herself, Queen Chiaky Otuteye and management of the organisation.

“Mind you we had not been pre informed as to the theme or agenda if the meeting. We were told that well ‘Miss Intercontinental organisation says Queen Chiaky Otuteye has been disqualified’,” she said.

Upon demanding an explanation, she said management cited public complaints and showed them an email from the international organisation.

“In that email all they said was that Miss Chiaky has been disqualified because of public complaints about her,” she stated.

Ms Sam Austin linked the complaints to a viral video posted by a blogger on the night of the finale.

She said the blogger shared a bad angle video of her daughter, which she described as “a very horrible video,” leading to online abuse.

“He shared this video on X and people started abusing my girl. When we saw the video we got worried so we contacted the organizers that the video is very poor. It doesn’t in anyway show who this girl is, so please have it pulled down,” she said.

According to her, the organisers failed to act.

“They kept giving excuses and the video was never pulled down,” she added.

She further claimed that during the meeting, the video was still circulating on TikTok and X, with no apparent effort by management to counter it with official content.

“In fact, we even requested that they should rather put their videos out there and they kept saying the person the contacted to do their photographs didn’t have anything for them,” she said.

She alleged that management then disclosed that officials from the international Miss Intercontinental organisation had earlier expressed concerns about her daughter’s appearance.

“They said before the letter came, the international people called Victoria Nyantakyi telling her that Chiaky doesn’t have the looks, she doesn’t have poise, she doesn’t have body and all of that,” she alleged.

Rose Sam Austin said they challenged the organisers on whether the established selection process had been followed.

“We asked did they give you the criteria for selecting your queens, she said yes. Did you sign a contract with the franchise they said yes. Did you meet the criteria, they said,” she recounted.

“You have no case. Go back to them and tell them that all the things they asked you to do, you have done it. Your lady has gone through all the processes from day 1 till the grand finale and the judges have judged her the winner,” she argued.
