The Ministry of Education today announced a new policy initiative to reintroduce Art, Craft, and Needlework into the curriculum for foundational learners across the country, beginning in the next academic year.
Education Minister Hon. Haruna Iddrisu made the announcement during an engagement with Home Economics teachers from Senior High Schools in the Eastern Region.
The Minister stated that the move is part of the government’s broader curriculum reforms, which aim to improve foundational learning and enhance the skill development of young Ghanaian students.
“We believe that a holistic education goes beyond core academic subjects,” said Minister Iddrisu. “By reintroducing Art, Craft, and Needlework, we are providing our youngest learners with the tools to develop their creative skills, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation for our cultural heritage.
This policy is a crucial step in preparing our children for a future that values innovation and practical skills.”
The curriculum reforms are designed to ensure that students are equipped with a strong foundation that not only focuses on literacy and numeracy but also incorporates essential creative and practical abilities.
The Ministry of Education will be working with educators and stakeholders to ensure a smooth implementation of the new policy in schools nationwide.
