The Nkawie Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region has remanded a 30-year-old mason into prison custody over charges of unlawful entry, causing damage, and stealing.
The accused, Solomon Wereko, pleaded not guilty to all three charges and is expected to reappear before the court on April 22, 2026.
Presenting the facts, Police Inspector Kwaku Frimpong told the court, presided over by Mr Robert Addo, that both the complainant, Asor Gyamfi, a trader, and the accused reside at Mpasatia in the Atwima Mponua District.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred at dawn on April 4, 2026, when the complainant’s two sons, sent on an errand, noticed that lights in their mother’s shop—previously switched off—were on.
Upon approaching the shop, they reportedly spotted the suspect inside and quickly raised an alarm. The complainant, along with other residents, rushed to the scene.
A report was subsequently made to the Mpasatia Police, who responded promptly and arrested Wereko at the scene.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly climbed onto a nearby lotto kiosk, damaged part of the structure, and gained access through the front roof before breaking the shop’s padlock to enter.
Prosecutors stated that Wereko made away with items including 14 bottles of liquid soap, 30 pairs of hand gloves, three electrical cables, and five pairs of socks, with a total value of GHS 1,160.
However, in his caution statement, the accused admitted to unlawful entry but denied causing damage and stealing.
Following further investigations, he was formally charged and arraigned before the court, which ordered his remand into custody pending the next hearing.
