Aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has intensified his campaign for the party’s top leadership position with a strong promise to help create jobs for Ghanaian youth if elected.
Speaking to members of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) and students of the University of Ghana Business School on Saturday, May 16, 2026, Chairman Wontumi said his leadership, together with a future NPP government led by Mahamudu Bawumia in 2028, would open up employment opportunities for graduates and unemployed youth across the country.
“This is what I have to say. If you make me the National Chairman and Dr Bawumia becomes the president in 2028, God will use me to create jobs in this country,” he declared to cheers from the students. “All your relatives who graduated and are also looking for jobs to do, they will also get work to do because of you,” he added.
Chairman Wontumi, who currently serves as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, is widely regarded as one of the party’s most influential grassroots mobilisers. Known for his outspoken style and strong support base in the Ashanti Region, he has played a key role in several NPP election campaigns over the years.
His latest remarks form part of growing political activity within the NPP as leading figures begin positioning themselves ahead of the party’s internal elections and the 2028 general elections.
Chairman Wontumi has consistently projected himself as a leader capable of energising the party’s grassroots and helping the NPP return to power.
