Mahama made the right choice with you as National Prayer and Thanksgiving Committee Chairman – Speaker tells Afriyie Ankrah

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has said that president John Dramani Mahama made the right choice by appointing Elvis Afriyie Ankrah as the Chairman of the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Committee.

The Speaker Alban Bagbin who received the committee for the planning committee who had called on him to officially invite him for the programme eulogized Elvis Afriyie Ankrah for the incredible service he has given to the country and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He recounted how Afriyie Ankrah allowed himself for the party to use his image for a campaign to mob up support at a time when the NDC was not in a good place during his tenure as the Minority Leader under the John Agyekum Kufuo administration.

“I was so happy that his Excellency has decided that we should have this National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving. And I was even more assured that it will happen when I heard that he has appointed Elvis Afriyie Ankrah as the Chairman of the Planning Committee.”

“For those of you who are young, this man has really served the country and his party. At a time when I was the Minority Leader and the NDC was really down, we used Afriyie Ankrah and our National Treasure to shoot an advert and that advert did very well to rekindle the spirit of the NDC,” the Speaker said.

In a meeting with the committee, the Speaker urged Ghanaians to rally behind the President for the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day because it will bring the country together.

The National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day, which was declared by President Mahama earlier this year as an annual event, will be held on July 1, 2025.

While the Christian prayers will take place at the Forecourt of the State House from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., the Muslim prayers will take place at the National Mosque from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. on the same day.
