President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the contractors of the Afienya-Dawhenya-Dodowa road has been given a 24-month deadline to complete the work
According to President Mahama, the contractor, Oswal investment limited, has however assured the completion before that mark.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony at Afienya on September 16, Mahama recalled a conversation he had with a traditional ruler during his campaign, which has since stayed with him.
“When I went to the palace of one of our traditional rulers during the campaign he told me “president Mahama we will vote for you, but if we vote for you if you don’t do anything else just fix all the roads in Ghana for us and we will be satisfied.” “
He said that fueled the introduction of the Big Push agenda which touches all the 16 regions in the country.
Mahama emphasized that most of the contractors selected for the initiative are local as they believe in the performance of Ghana’s own contractors, with only a few being foreign.
“Majority of the contractors selected for the big push are Ghanaian contractors because we believe in the capacity of our own,” he stated.
He also praised the contractor, Oswal Investment Limited, nothing he he works with speed yet does not compromise on quality
“The contractor on this road is Oswal Investment Limited and I can say with my hand on my heart that he is one of our best local constructors.”
“We’ve given him 24 months to finish but he has whispered in my ear that he’ll do it in shorter to an 24 months,” Mahama revealed.
He further assured the contractor that funding will not be a challenge for the project.
“This year the Minister of Finance per my instructions, put aside 13.9 billion cedis for the big push alone.”
He recounted seeing the poor condition of the Afienya-Dawhenya-Dodowa road during his campaign and vowing then to make it a priority.
“So today is a promise made, promise delivered,” he added.
President Mahama said that todays sod-cutting covers the Tema-Aflao roads, the Ashiaman road, Oyibi-Apolonea-Afienya roads, Dodowa-Somanya roads, and the roads around Shia Hills.
He added that other projects that had long started but stalled had been added to the big push including Dome-Ketase roads, Ofankor-Nsawam roads, Adenta-Dodowa roads and the beach road which goes from Black Star Square to Tema.
