Lower DSTV  prices or face suspension by August 7 –  Sam George

The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has ordered the National Communications Authority (NCA) to suspend MultiChoice-owned DSTV’s broadcasting licence if the company fails to reduce its subscription prices by August 7, 2025.

According to him, he has formally written to the National Communications Authority (NCA), instructing it to begin the suspension process against DSTV if the company fails to adjust its subscription prices.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Friday August 1, 2025, he said “I have directed the NCA to act swiftly. If by August 7th DSTV has not complied, their broadcasting licence will be suspended.”

The Minister explained that his directive follows a recent letter from DSTV, in which the company defended its pricing by citing macroeconomic challenges.

“DSTV claims the Ghanaian cedi has depreciated by over 200% in the past eight years, and that this makes price reductions impossible,” Mr. George stated.

He rejected the justification as insufficient, arguing that Ghanaians have endured excessive pricing for far too long.

“My loyalty is to the Ghanaian people. They have been exploited for years, and it’s time we put a stop to it,” he declared.
“We will not allow foreign service providers to take advantage of our citizens under the guise of economic pressures.”

The NCA as well as DSTV are yet to release official responses. Meanwhile, Ghanaians are watching to see if DSTV will comply before the August 7 deadline.
