Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, has accused the government of acting without regard for justice, fairness, or the law in the handling of events surrounding the parliamentary re-run in the Kpandai constituency.
According to him, the decision making regarding the Kpandai situation reflects a government that acts without concern for what is right or wrong.
Speaking on Joy News and monitored by NewsDesksGH on December 9, Matthew Nyindam insisted that the election in the affected polling stations was free of malpractice.
“Those 41 polling stations, I can tell you without any irregularities that nothing untoward happened.”
Nyindam lamented what he described as an environment where speaking up attracts punishment.
“It’s just that today, the one who’ll speak the truth is not there. And if you go to talk about something they’ll say that you’ll be held in contempt.”
He stressed that neither he nor his party engaged in any wrongdoing during the election.
“I am not troubled. We’ve not cheated in this particular election.”
Nyindam accused the government of behaving with unchecked authority and alleged that the government shows no respect for the law when pursuing its agenda.
“What I’ve realized is that there’s a government that is so strong and whatever they want to do, they’ll want to do it.”
“They don’t care whether you’re right or you’re wrong. They won’t respect any law in this country, whatever they want to do they will do it.”
He further expressed, “Even more powerful people, more known persons, people who can break the ice, they’re suffering. How much more somebody like from my village, whose father is a poor farmer, you don’t have any friends, you don’t have anybody. They’re doing this to you, what can you do? You can’t do anything.”
Matthew Nyindamadded that all available legal avenues have been pursued to challenge the decisions taken so far.
“We did everything. We’ve filed the stay of proceedings, we have filed notice of appeal. We have gone to the appeal court to challenge the ruling, and that’s where we can go.”
On November 24, 2025, the Tamale High Court, presided over by Justice Emmanuel Brew Plange, nullified the results of the 2024 parliamentary election in the Kpandai constituency, which had declared Nyindam, the New Patriotic Party candidate, as winner, citing widespread irregularities and non-compliance with electoral regulations.
Subsequently, the Clerk to Parliament on December 4, 2025, formally notified the Electoral Commission of a vacancy in the Kpandai seat, rendering Nyindam a persona non grata in Parliament.
