A member of the Communication Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kobby Amoah, has dismissed suggestions that Kennedy Agyapong’s absence from the party’s National Thanksgiving Service signals a lack of support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, Kennedy Agyapong is known for being outspoken and would have openly declared if he had no intention of backing the party’s presidential candidate.
The NPP held its National Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, February 15, 2026, following its presidential primary conducted on January 31, 2026. However, former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Ohene Agyapong was notably absent, sparking discussions within political circles.
Speaking on Joy Prime and monitored by NewsDesksGH on February 16, Kobby Amoah said, “If he was not present at one event or if he’s not been to Dr. Bawumias house to say hello, that does not mean that he doesn’t support the candidature.”
Kobby Amoah insisted that Kennedy Agyapong is not someone who hides his position.
“You know Kennedy. Kennedy is someone who speaks his mind. Kennedy does not pretend.”
He further argued that if Ken Agyapong had decided not to support the eventual winner, he would have stated it immediately after the primaries.
“Right after the election, if he wasn’t going to support Dr. Bawumia, he would have stood at the campaign office there and then and said ‘I am not going to do this.’ But he didn’t do that.”
According to him, the former flagbearer hopeful had, in fact, urged his supporters to unite behind the party’s candidate.
“He actually was very clear and emphatic that his people should come together that his people should come together and rally behind the eventual winner of the party and support him.”
At the end of the January 31 primary, former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia emerged winner, followed by Kennedy Ohene Agyapong in second place. Bryan Acheampong placed third, while Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong finished fourth and fifth respectively.
