Jealous Lover Arrested After Allegedly Setting Girlfriend’s House Ablaze, Killing Three

The Western North Regional Police Command has arrested a man for allegedly setting fire to his girlfriend’s house, a tragic act that claimed the lives of three people at Subrinkwanta in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality.

The suspect, Kwaku Numatekpor, popularly known as “On God,” is reported to have set the house on fire following a strained relationship with his girlfriend. The blaze left 19-year-old Benedicta Cudjo, a student, her 60-year-old mother, Mary Oppong, and her 22-year-old sister, Dora Cudjo, with severe burn injuries.

Police say Benedicta Cudjo was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but sadly succumbed to her injuries. Her mother, Mary Oppong, also died at the Anhwiaso Community Hospital, while Dora Cudjo, who was later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further treatment, was also confirmed dead.

Briefing the media, the Western North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Dr. Francis Kwame Tsidi, assured the public that the police are determined to ensure justice for the victims and their family.

He further advised parents and guardians to pay close attention to the upbringing of their children and urged the public to resolve disputes peacefully rather than resorting to violence.

Police say the suspect remains in custody and has been arraigned before court as investigations into the incident continue.
