The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, has dismissed allegations that he led a mob to attack officers of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in the Ahafo Region.
According to him, the incident took place in Asutifi South, not in his constituency, and that he only went to the scene after hearing of the disturbances.
Speaking on Adom FM, monitored by Newsdesksgh, Dr. Addo said, “It is not true. I have not led any mob action to attack NAIMOS. The taskforce is doing a great job, so why would I even think of mobilizing people to attack them? Even as an MP, that makes no sense.”
“On the weekend, there are always activities around, and I was on my way to a funeral. I took a different route and saw and heard the commotion. I immediately called the MP for Asutifi South, Collins Dauda, to inform him,” he said.
According to Dr. Addo, Mr. Dauda asked him to assess the situation since he was closer to the area. “That is why I went to the grounds. I even introduced myself to the military personnel and told them I was just passing and wanted to see for myself,” he added.
He further noted that he handed his phone to the military leader to speak directly with Mr. Dauda.
“While I was there, tension was rising, so we all moved to the police station. The road was blocked at the police station, and the military and police were held up until the Regional Crime Officer arrived to ensure we could move safely,” he stated.
Dr. Addo said his presence at the scene was solely to restore calm. “I was only there to ensure peace in the area. When the situation worsened, I called some community leaders, including a prominent Muslim chief, to help restore order. While inside the police station, we heard reports of attacks happening outside, but at no point did I mobilize anyone to attack the task force.”
He questioned the motive behind the allegations, saying, “Why would I lead over 600 people to attack NAIMOS when I was even on my way to a funeral? That area is not even my constituency, so why would I do that? I even commend the military for remaining calm and not retaliating.”
His reaction follows a statement issued by the Bureau of Public Safety (BPS) on Monday, November 3, 2025, calling for his immediate arrest and investigation, along with alleged accomplices, over the violent attack on NAIMOS officers at Bronikrom near Hwidiem.
The BPS described the incident—which involved the assault of the NAIMOS Director of Operations and his team—as a “clear obstruction of law enforcement officers in the discharge of their lawful duties” and condemned it in the strongest terms.
