Former Member of Parliament for the Odododiodio constituency, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has refuted claims that no sitting Member of Parliament was arrested during the tenure of president Akufo-Addo.

According to Nii Lante Vanderpuye, he was handcuffed and put in the boot of a car as a sitting MP and dumped at the police station during the 2020 elections and nobody complained about it.

He said there is no law that prevents a Member of Parliament who has committed an offense to be arrested and a notice will only be served to the Speaker when the said MP is conducting parliamentary business.

“I was handcuffed and put in the boot of a car as an MP and dumped at the Police station. I collapsed, my polling agent was shot and killed during the 2020 elections in my constituency.”

“An MP can be arrested if he is not in Parliament or in his constituency working but if you are in your house in Accra you can be arrested. Nobody is above the law, if you commit a crime they can be arrest,” he said on Citi.
