I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder triggered by substance abuse – Daniel Duncan-Williams

Daniel Duncan-Williams, son of Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has disclosed that he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2016, a condition he says was triggered by substance abuse.

Accessing to him, he has however made a conscious decision to turn his life around and pursue positive change.

In a video posted on his TikTok page, Daniel Duncan-Williams decided to clear up the negative connotations about him that some people hold.

“In 2016 I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder which, if you don’t know what that is, it is a mental disorder that has to do with overwhelming emotions. Long story short, my bipolar had to do with being triggered by substance abuse.”

He explained that his struggles were linked to heavy substance use at the time as he was abusing substances like marijuana and others, abusing alcohol and even engaging in promiscuous behavior.

Daniel described this phase as part of his past, stressing that he has since chosen a different path.

“I’m making this message to say that that was my old life.”

He said that over the past two to three years, he has deliberately worked towards changing his lifestyle by embracing sobriety, though the process has not been easy.

However, he noted that replacing destructive habits with healthier ones has helped him rebuild his life.

“But if I can let go of those habits and build new habits like exercising, eating well, reading, getting knowledge, talking to people who actually have their heads on straight, I will build new habits.”

Daniel also addressed public perceptions about him, urging people to reconsider past misconceptions.

“Please forget every negative misconception that you have of me out there, because guess what, I love myself and I am not going to give up on myself.”

He further shared advice he received from his father, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, which he says continues to guide him.

“My dad always says something. He says ‘Danny, I don’t want you to do anything for me but do it for Danny and never give up on Daniel.’ I am never giving up on Daniel.”

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams is a prominent Ghanaian religious leader, and the founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International.

Daniel Duncan-Williams has in the past been involved in controversies, largely linked to emotional outbursts and public meltdowns on social media. His latest disclosure marks a personal reflection on mental health, recovery, and self-accountability.
