Hwidiem clash: Even we NDC MPs are roasting the accused MPs - Yendi MP

Member of Parliament for Yendi, Abdul Fatawu Alhassan Jofa, says even within the National Democratic Congress (NDC), there is strong internal criticism against the two Members of Parliament linked to the recent Hwidiem clash.

According to the Yendi MP, they do not condone any act that undermines President John Dramani Mahama’s fight against illegal mining or galamsey.

Speaking on GHOne TV on November 4, and monitored by NewsDesksGh, Abdul Fatawu Alhassan strongly criticized the altercation, and explained that other NDC members felt the same.

“Even within the NDC we are already roasting these people. Collins Dauda and Kwaku Addo, we’re already roasting them dry even before we get to the bottom of the matter,” he said.

“It tells you that there’s that general condemnation of the issue that we’ll not sit down for even those who are members of the NDC to put the fight we’re waging against galamsey in vain,” he added.

According to him, members of the NDC in Parliament are united in their support for the President’s efforts to end illegal mining.

He however urged that people should wait till investigations are concluded.

“We will not sit down and allow the fight by the presidency to go astray but I also believe that we ought to hear their side of the story,” he said.

The MP further noted that President Mahama remains determined to root out galamsey regardless of who is involved.

“Even John Mahama is willing to sacrifice seats in the parliament to aid in the fight against galamsey. He will not hesitate,” he stressed.

He then cautioned government appointees and other politicians against abusing their positions.

“Let no member of the government think that once you’re part of the government you can always do what you like,” he warned.
