The Kwahu township has been thrown into confusion after the reported abduction of the Queen Mother, Nana Adwoa Gyamfua III, during an early-morning operation believed to have been carried out by armed men in police uniforms.
Reports say heavily armed personnel stormed the Queen Mother’s palace around 4:30 a.m., firing shots and taking several individuals into custody. After the operation, the Queen Mother’s absence was discovered.
Speaking on Adom FM and monitored by NewsDesksGH, the Kwahuhene Kyeame, Okyeame Obour Asabre, said the town has come to a complete standstill, with residents afraid to step outside.
“It has spoilt everything. Nothing is going on here. School children can’t go out, even adults can’t go out,” he said.
According to him, he has not been able to visit the palace himself, noting that being present would have put him at risk.
He added that any traditional leaders is often targeted during chieftaincy-related tensions.
He said he was told that the team reportedly used two jeeps and two private cars during the operation.
“When Chieftaincy issues come up, they catch every leader. Even the Queen, they have caught her. So I haven’t been able to go there yet,” he said.
Local authorities have not yet issued an official statement.
