The Gold Board (GoldBoD) has announced the arrest of six individuals, including an American, a Moroccan, and four Ghanaians, for engaging in illegal gold trading without a valid licence.
In a post shared on social media on October 7, 2025, GoldBoD revealed that the suspects were arrested at the SSNIT Emporium near Marina Mall in Accra during a joint operation.
The agency also posted four images showing two of the Ghanaian suspects and the two foreign suspects.
“An American, a Moroccan, and four Ghanaians have been arrested at the SSNIT Emporium near Marina Mall, Accra, for engaging in illegal gold trading worth over GHS 2.2 million without a licence,” GoldBoD wrote.

The suspects are alleged to be in violation of Ghana’s Minerals and Mining Act, which requires that only licensed entities trade in gold or other precious minerals.
