God’s Blink Could Bring Down Accra Buildings – Engineer Mahama

A road and building consultant, Abdulai Mahama, has raised alarm over the structural safety of buildings in Accra, attributing the growing risk to indiscipline and widespread disregard for construction regulations.

His warning follows the recent collapse of a building near Newtown Experimental D/A School, which claimed three lives and left about 20 others seriously injured, intensifying concerns about building safety in the capital.

Speaking on Breakfast Daily on March 30, 2026, Engineer Mahama criticised developers for flouting building laws and relying on chance rather than proper engineering standards.

“Indiscipline is just on the rise, especially when it comes to building. We ignore all the laws, and then we expect God to hold the buildings. Most buildings in Accra, I can say, are standing by the grace of God,” he stated.

He cautioned that the situation poses a serious threat to lives, warning that structural failures could occur at any time if urgent action is not taken.

Engineer Mahama further urged property owners to engage qualified engineers to assess their buildings, stressing that every structure can and should undergo professional evaluation.

He also called for stricter enforcement of building regulations to prevent future disasters and safeguard lives and property.
