Today, November 29, 2025, marks the 67th birthday of the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
Born on November 29, 1958, President Mahama has been the central figure in Ghana’s Fourth Republic across multiple decades of public service.
Mahama was born in Damongo and received his early education at Achimota School and Ghana Secondary School in Tamale.
He later earned degrees from the University of Ghana and the Institute of Social Sciences in Moscow.
Before entering frontline politics, he worked with the Embassy of Japan in Accra and the humanitarian organisation Plan International.
His political career began in 1996 when he was elected to Parliament.
He went on to serve as Deputy Minister and later Minister for Communications.
He became Vice President in 2009 and assumed the presidency in July 2012 following the passing of President John Atta Mills.
Mahama then won the 2012 general election and served until 2017.
In 2024, he was elected President once again and began his second full term in January 2025.
Beyond politics, President Mahama is also an author and historian with interests spanning technology, agriculture, and global development.
He has written for international publications including the Huffington Post and the New York Times.
His memoir, My First Coup d’État, was published in 2012.
He is married to former First Lady Lordina Mahama, and they have eight children.
