GAF assures transparency regarding results of fatal helicopter crash investigations

The Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Gyenfi has stated that nothing will be hidden in investigations into the August 6 deadly helicopter crash, promising transparency and accountability.

According to him, international assistance has been requested and positive responses have been received in that regard, as the probe seeks to uncover the exact cause of the accident at Adansi Akrofuom.

During a visit by the Greater Accra Traditional Council to the ministry on August 13, the Deputy Minister for defense said that nothing will be covered regarding investigations surrounding the crash.

“It will be transparent and the Ghanaian public will know exactly what happened and the cause of this tragic accident.”

The spokesperson further cautioned that “We also want to caution the media and some analysts who have been churning out misinformation and untruths about this whole incident.”

He added that Ghanaians should trust the Defence Ministry and the Ghana Armed Forces to be diligent and transparent in their work.

“Whatever was the cause will be known to the people of Ghana, and we will take some lessons out of that,” he said.

Paying tribute to the late minister Dr. Omane Boamah, Ernest Brogya Gyenfi described him as “fantastic” and praised his efforts to retool the armed forces.

“Even in the short period that he served in the ministry, many people will have good stories to tell about him. We know the aggressive strategy that he undertook to retool the Ghana Armed Forces. Unfortunately for us, he didn’t live to see the fruit of that strategic step.” He said.

The crash, which happened a week ago on Wednesday August 6, led to the death of 8 people including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

The other people that perished are Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, and Air Force crew members Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
