Former Deputy NSA Boss Gifty Oware Mensah Returns to Ghana, picked up by NIB Investigation

Former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Gifty Oware Mensah, has arrived at Kotoka International Airport in Accra and is set to present herself to the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) for questioning.

Her return to Ghana comes amid an ongoing investigation into allegations of financial misconduct and mismanagement during her tenure at the NSA.

Gifty Oware Mensah, who served as the Deputy Executive Director of the NSA under the previous administration, has been under scrutiny for her alleged involvement in financial irregularities.

The investigation was initiated following a series of audits and reports that raised red flags about the misuse of funds and procurement breaches within the authority.

According to sources close to the investigation, the allegations against Oware Mensah include the misappropriation of funds meant for national service personnel, irregular award of contracts, and failure to follow due process in financial transactions. These allegations have sparked public outrage, with many calling for accountability and transparency in the management of public resources.

Oware Mensah arrived at Kotoka International Airport on on Tuesday March 4, 2025, where she was met by officials from the NIB. In a brief statement to the press, she expressed her willingness to cooperate fully with the investigation.

“I have returned to Ghana to clear my name and assist the authorities in their investigations. I have nothing to hide and am confident that the truth will prevail,” she said.

Her decision to present herself to the NIB has been described as a positive step by legal experts, who believe it demonstrates her commitment to due process. However, critics argue that the investigation should have been initiated earlier to ensure timely accountability.

The case has drawn significant public attention, with many Ghanaians expressing mixed reactions. While some have commended the NIB for taking action, others have questioned why it took so long for the investigation to commence. Civil society organizations have also weighed in, calling for a thorough and impartial investigation to restore public trust in government institutions.

“The allegations against Gifty Oware Mensah are serious and must be investigated without fear or favor. The public deserves to know the truth, and those found culpable must face the full rigors of the law,” said a representative from the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII).
