‎PRESS STATEMENT.
‎For Immediate Release

‎REFLECTIONS AND DECLARATION.

‎Only a couple of days ago, the entire nation was struck by the untimely demise of eight honourable men, one of whom was diligent Honourable Alhaji Murtala Mohammed Ibrahim, who served as Member of Parliament for Tamale Central Constituency. This incident put a heavy load on the hearts of every Ghanaian, so heavy, that it was almost unbearable for many of us.

‎We grieved in many ways, but in those periods of grief, we held on to the rope of Allah. We know and bear witness, as is evident, that Hon Murtala put his religion first in all his dealings, before everything else followed.

‎In light of this knowledge, we have unshakable trust in Allah that what He has prepared for our late uncle is far greater than whatever is contained in this world. This trust, in some way, has soothed our broken hearts to an extent. We continue to grieve still, because such is the nature of human, and because late MP has left such an indelible mark in the lives of many of us, that it is almost impossible to erase.

‎My sincerest condolences go to his family, especially his wife and children. May Allah grant them the strength to forge through this difficult time, and soothe their hearts, which may be heaviest of all of us. May He grant them the patience to keep true to Him, and understand that He does not shame His believers, and that when Allah decrees a thing to happen, none has the power to change it. May Allah replace this hardship with plenty of ease for them.

‎For my late brother, Hon. Murtala Mohammed, I pray for Allah’s mercy on him. I pray that Allah grants him Jannatul Firdaus, and that He puts his soul in the company of righteous believers who have passed before him, and, reward him with bounties befitting only of His Magnificence.

‎I sympathize with my hardworking Tamale Central Constituency executives in this trying time as I can only imagine what a blow this misfortune has been to each one of you. I wish to remind you and myself that when Allah takes something from a person, it means He has prepared something greater for him/her in return. I plead with you to take heart.

‎My name, officially, is Dr SEIDU MOHAMMED (MLS.D). I hold degrees in Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science and Master of Public Health, majoring in Maternal and Child health.

‎I was born on Wednesday, 20th of February, 1985 to Hajia Fati Mahama and the late Alhaji Mahama Fiter. I was born in the Hausa Zongo Area, in the Tamale Central Constituency and I have lived most of my early years in the same constituency.

‎I attended Presbyterian Primary School and Zogbeli Junior High School, both located in Tamale Central Constituency. I later moved to Vitting Senior Technical School, then to Tamale Technical University (formerly T-Poly), and then to the University for Development Studies (UDS), where I now serve as Assistant Lecturer with the Department of Population and Reproductive Health.

‎I am a staunch NDC party communicator. I serve on the regional communications team, and have regularly represented the NDC on numerous national platforms, including the likes of Pan African Television, TV3, GHOne, Onua FM, Kassapa FM, Radio Gold, Sagani TV, Zaa TV, NTV etc.

‎On these platforms, I have always effectively propagated, to the satisfaction and admiration of my viewers, the goodwill of our great party, the National Democratic Congress.

‎In the run-up to the 2024 elections, I designed, hosted, and managed a political program dubbed LEM LOORI for over two years on Diamond FM, located in Tamale. This program was borne from my intent to use effective communication to promote and disseminate the good works of NDC, including all the regional parliamentary candidates at the time, many of whom are now MPs, and I firmly hope that the candidates who unfortunately lost their elections, will win those seats for the party come 2028, while our incumbents retain theirs, so that the NDC will continue working diligently for the good people of Ghana with a resounding majority in parliament.

‎I need not burden you with more reminders of my selfless works for the NDC, because I believe that you, my fellow comrades, who are strongly rooted in the party, love the party as much as I do, and are honest and loyal to the truth, know how greatly I have toiled for our NDC party in all the years I’ve been in the political space.

‎In this moment, while I reminisce some of my works and achievements within the party, I cannot help but remember Hon. Murtala Mohammed who has greatly modeled me into who I am today. We lost an excellent comrade in Hon. Murtala, who I first met on the 25th of December, 2011.

‎Following the unfortunate circumstance, sadly, and by default, the position of MP for Tamale Central Constituency becomes vacant and open for contest, although the speaker of Parliament is yet to make an official declaration affirming this. I have also been informed about the electoral commission’s communication and plans to go ahead with conventions and organize a by-election for the aforementioned vacant position, which is scheduled for Tuesday September 30th, 2025. I have keenly reviewed the 1992 constitution of Ghana, specifically its Article 94, as well as Article 41 Clause 8 of the Constitution of the National Democratic Congress, in line with which I strongly qualify for this contest.

Hon. Murtala was the one who put me on the trajectory I live and enjoy today, when he sent me to TV3 to represent NDC for the very first time to start communicating for the party at the national level.

‎The late Murtala has mentored me into loving the art of communication, and being passionate about it. I know firsthand, how passionate and dedicated he was when it comes to matters concerning young people and their involvement in leadership.

‎With this strong conviction of comrade unflinching faith and trust in young people especially me, my personal reflections and assessment, and having had extensive consultations with my mentors, party national and regional executives, religious and traditional leaders, constituency stakeholders, and Tamale Central Constituency executives, I, Dr Seidu Mohammed, having countlessly put my very life on the line for the progress of the NDC, humbly DECLARE MY INTENTION TO CONTEST in the race for the position of Member of Parliament for Tamale Central Constituency.

‎I take this decision not for myself, not for my family, and certainly not for my wife and children. I take this decision for all young people, most especially, the constituents of Tamale Central Constituency, who I so pray to serve.

‎I know that in politics, convictions and opinions are bound to differ, and emotions may sometimes get the better of many people. I respect the perspectives and discernment of everyone, including my opponents. As I go into this democratic race, I wish to express that I have no iota of malice or resentment towards any of my opponents, and I have great respect for their decisions and personal convictions.

‎I expect this race to be a fiercely contested one, because I know that for a party as great as the NDC, and a constituency as resilient as Tamale Central, it would be a shame if we fail to produce strong candidates to try to extend the legacy of Hon Alhaji Murtala Mohammed Ibrahim.

‎I know that the shoes my brother has left behind are ones that no one can fully fit into. However, it is my sincerest intention to serve as close as possible to the legacy he left for us, while charting a legacy of my own in our dear Tamale Central Constituency.

‎As Member of Parliament for the area, I will in all humility serve my constituents, all religious and traditional leaders, and my fellow MPs, so that we will work together for a thriving constituency, a greater NDC, and a developing country. This will allow us to create more jobs for our youth, promote peace, provide good and accessible roads, potable water, and adequate health facilities to stand the test of diseases in the Northern region, especially in our constituency.

‎I cannot undertake this journey without the help of Allah, who has created me and uplifted me to this level. I pray to Him to guide me, fortify me, and keep helping me.

‎I also certainly cannot do this without the support of you, my strong Tamale Central constituent. Therefore, I humbly call on you to embark on this journey with me. A journey which I promise you, only seeks the goodwill and growth of the constituency.

‎To my friends, colleagues, and well-wishers, I call on you for your prayers and support to help propagate our message in order to actualize this dream of ours.

‎I call on you to come aboard and together, let’s take charge…

‎For the good of Tamale Central Constituency,
‎For the good of the Great NDC,
‎And for the good of our Motherland Ghana.
