Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid’s lawyers refute OSP’s GHS 100m asset seizure claim

Lawyers for Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid have dismissed claims by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) that assets worth over GHS 100 million allegedly linked to their client have been seized.

In a strongly worded statement issued by HAY & Partners at Law, counsel for the former Minister said the OSP’s publication on its official Facebook page was “false, misleading, and injurious.”

“We wish to place on record, emphatically and without ambiguity, that no assets or businesses belonging to or associated with our client have been identified, traced, or seized by the OSP,” the statement said.

According to the lawyers, the OSP’s own amended charge sheet filed on October 17, 2025, lists five counts against Dr. Abdul-Hamid but makes no reference to any asset seizure.

“Not even one of those charges mentions, refers to, or concerns any asset or business purportedly owned by Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid,” they stressed, adding that the accompanying statement of facts filed by the OSP “is devoid of any reference to the supposed assets.”

The law firm described the OSP’s conduct as “unbecoming of a prosecutorial office,” accusing it of prioritizing media theatrics over professionalism.

“It is deeply regrettable that instead of complying with the orders of the court, including the directive to file its disclosures, the OSP has chosen to engage in public theatrics and false reportage,” the statement noted.

The lawyers further reminded the OSP that, as a public institution, it is constitutionally bound to act with fairness, integrity, and respect for the rights and dignity of all persons before the court.

They emphasized that Dr. Abdul-Hamid has fully cooperated with the OSP since the start of investigations — honoring invitations, attending every court sitting, and demonstrating respect for the judicial process.

“His record of conduct throughout these proceedings has been one of respect for our judicial process,” the lawyers affirmed.

The firm concluded by reiterating that Dr. Abdul-Hamid remains innocent until proven guilty under the 1992 Constitution.

“Any attempt to prejudice public opinion through misinformation undermines the rule of law and the integrity of the judicial process,” the statement added.
