The Director of Political Research for the United Party, Dr. Ramzi Inusah, has stated that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will never be able to win a general election for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to him, the former Vice President is what he described as an opposition leader rather than a candidate capable of leading the party back to power.
Dr. Ramzi Inusah made these statements on TV3 on December 16, as monitored by NewsDesksGH.
“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia can never win an election for the NPP. I dare say so this morning,” he said.
He added that there have been claims by some figures within the NPP, including the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), and the Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), suggesting that plans are already in place to influence the party’s flagbearer selection process.
“All articulate the fact that the delegate album going to be used to elect the flag bearer has already been manipulated and in favour of Dr. Bawumia. They’ve said that countless times,” he stated.
He went on to describe the former Vice President as an opposition leader.
“NPP needs serious leadership. NPP does not need an opposition leader. NPP should look for a candidate that can win an election for them, not an opposition leader.”
Dr. Inusah also made reference to recent comments by former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, which she made while campaigning for Dr. Bawumia.
“She said that the economic woes we suffered under the previous administration should be attributed to Ken Ofori-Atta and not Dr. Bawumia,” he noted.
He disagreed strongly with the former MP’s position.
“Who was the head of the economic management team? Under whose watch did we lose monies through the Millenium Challenge Account? Under whose watch did we lose 2.14 billion Ghana cedis due to the Go for Oil policy? Under whose watch did we see the cedi decline and depreciate?”
