A 38-year-old woman, Sarah Wilson, popularly known as Maame Esi, has been convicted by the Assin Fosu District Court for impersonating a senior police officer and defrauding the family of her deceased boyfriend, a police inspector.
According to police investigations, Sarah exploited her relationship with the late officer and her knowledge of his personal details to deceive his family. She allegedly posed as the Central North Regional Police Commander and contacted the deceased officer’s father, claiming she needed funds to facilitate funeral arrangements and process a death certificate.
Believing the request to be genuine, the father transferred GH¢2,000 to her.
The convict later demanded an additional GH¢2,000, insisting the money was urgently needed for other official procedures. Her second request raised suspicion, prompting the deceased officer’s father to report the matter to the police.
Sarah Wilson was subsequently arrested and confessed to the offence during investigations.
She was arraigned before the Assin Fosu District Court on Monday, June 1, 2026, where she was convicted for her role in the fraud.
