The Asante Kingdom is in mourning following the passing of Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who died in the early hours of August 7, 2025 at the age of 91.
There had been speculation in recent days about her passing, but the news was only officially confirmed by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, during an Asanteman Council meeting at the Manhyia Palace on August 11.
Born Nana Ama Konadu, Nana Konadu Yiadom III was the 14th Asantehemaa and the biological sister of the current Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
She assumed the role of Asantehemaa in February 2017, following the death of her mother Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.
During her reign, Nana Konadu Yiadom III was respected for her fairness, counsel, and dedication to preserving Asante heritage and unity.
A one-week observance will be held on August 21, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace as further preparations for her funeral continue.
