Awutu Senya East constituents will know they were misled by propaganda - NPP Director of Communications

Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, says the people of Awutu Senya East will soon realise that they were misled by political propaganda during the 2024 elections.

According to him, the current Member of Parliament, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor, is “a beneficiary of a lie” following the release of the official report on the electoral violence incident involving her and former MP for the area, Mavis Hawa Koomson.

Philis Okunor met with the press on November 6 to clarify her position, insisting she never denied that the attacks occurred.

“At no time did I say no attacks happened,” she stated.

However, Richard Ahiagbah, speaking on Metro TV and observed by NewsDesksGH.com on November 7, said the report is clear and proves that Hawa Koomson was wrongly accused.

“She had the chance to tell her truth to the committee. The report of the committee is final and it is clear that, one, Hawa Koomson is innocent,” he said.

He said the findings now expose the misinformation that influenced the outcome of the last election.

“Sadly, Madam Phyllis, MP, has won the election on the basis of all this mischaracterization,” he said.

He added that the report will help constituents make informed choices in future elections.

“The material value of this report is that the people of the constituency now know the truth and perhaps they will act on the truth going into 2028 to make their electoral decision,” he said.

“To know that they’ve been misled in one way or the other by propaganda to vote for an individual to lead them,” he alleged.

Mr. Ahiagbah then urged the Member of Parliament to move on from the controversy.

“I think that the MP should let sleeping dogs lie and let’s move on,” he added.

“Let’s understand that the election is over and the truth is out, so we move on knowing that she’s a beneficiary of a lie,” he said.

Richard Ahiagbah commended President John Dramani Mahama and Minister for the Interior Muntaka Mohamed-Mubarak for facilitating the report.
