Political scientist and analyst, Dr. Joshua Zaato, has described former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer hopeful, Alan Kyerematen as the most indisciplined figure in the history of the party.
According to the political analyst, Alan Kyeremantens history of quitting the party after flagbearer elections has gone against the NPP.
Dr. Zaato made these statements while speaking on Tv3 on October 1 about the current state of the NPP.
He first pointed to the 2007 NPP presidential primary, which saw Alan Kyerematen lose to former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

“Akufo-Addo and Alan Kyeremanteng were the two leading candidates. Alan lost that election. You know what he did, he resigned,” Zaato said.
He noted that Kyerematen’s decision was unprecedented at the time.
“For the first time in the history of true NPP, a leading member of the party lost a primary, delegates humbled him, he resigned,” he stressed.
Zaato then noted that the NPP subsequently lost the 2008 general election and remained in opposition for almost eight years.
He went on to highlight Kyerematen’s return to the party to contest once again for the presidential slot.
He recounted, “Same Alan Kyeremanteng came back to the party, he went again to contest for president. Once again delegates humbled him, once again delegates rejected him. You know what he did again? Once again he quit the party.”
Dr. Zaato further went on to describe the former NPP member as the most indisciplined in the history of the party.
“Honorable Kyeremanteng is the biggest distorter, he’s the biggest quitter and he’s the most indisciplined person in the history of the NPP,” he stressed.
Adding, “He is the man who has shown that whenever delegates reject him, he will resign.”
Alan Kyerematen’s first resignation came in 2008 after he lost the presidential primary to Nana Akufo-Addo.
Though he later returned, he again left the NPP in 2023 following another failed bid to lead the party into the 2024 general election.
Kyerematen the launched his own political movement, the Movement for Change (M4C) and contested the 2024 polls as an independent candidate.
Dr. Zaato added that all political parties go through phases of restructuring, however they are able to pull through such challenges.
