Member of Parliament for Ada, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah says the Akwatia by-election is so far the most peaceful she has experienced.
According to her, the police presence is impressive and she commended the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohunu, for the deployment.
Speaking to Joy News reporters at a polling station in Akwatia, she said “This is the first time I’m witnessing by elections so peaceful, security is full everywhere and anywhere you go the police have positioned themselves very well. Each polling station has over 30 police officers and I say kudos to the IGP.”
Comfort Cudjoe-Ghansah contrasted the atmosphere of this elections with the tense environment during the Ablekuma North by-election earlier this year.
“Akwatia was a threat when Ablekuma North happened but we can see that the change we are looking for has really come,” she noted.
She also addressed a scuffle that occurred at the NDC’s Akwatia office, which is not a polling station, over the removal of party posters and resulted in one arrest.
Hon. Cudjoe-Ghansah urged calm and focus among voters, saying, “Today is election day, anybody should forget about any misunderstanding and argument and focus on why we are here today. I’m urging everybody to stay focused”
“We don’t need those posters even today. All we need is the people to come out and vote. Removing of posters today, what will it bring? Allow them to do it and have your MP. All we need is the seat. Focus on the reasons why you are here,” she added
She further expressed confidence that the NDC’s candidate, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, will win the election.
The Akwatia by-election is currently ongoing, following the death of the former Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, who passed away in July 2025.
Three candidates are contesting for the Akwatia seat.
They are Solomon Kwame Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Bediako Baidoo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and independent candidate Owusu Patrick.
