AfriMass to host Afrika Radio Business Mixer for World Radio Day on February 13

AfriMass Network has announced plans to host the Afrika Radio Business Mixer on Friday, February 13, 2026, as part of activities to mark World Radio Day, a global observance proclaimed by UNESCO to celebrate radio.

According to AfriMass, the event will bring together key stakeholders in the radio and media ecosystem to examine the future of radio in Africa, particularly in the context of rapid technological change driven by artificial intelligence.

In a press release, AfriMass Network underscored the continued importance of radio across the continent, describing it as an indispensable tool for information dissemination and social connection.

“World Radio Day continues to spotlight radio’s critical role in informing, educating, and connecting communities—particularly across Africa, where radio remains a vital communication lifeline for millions,” the statement said.

The release further highlighted radio’s resilience in the digital age, noting that, “In an era of rapid digital transformation, radio’s adaptability and reach make it a cornerstone of inclusive information dissemination.”

Touching on this year’s theme, AfriMass Network said the 2026 World Radio Day focus presents an opportunity for deeper reflection within the industry.

“The 2026 World Radio Day theme, ‘Radio and Artificial Intelligence,’ opens a timely and critical conversation on how emerging technologies are reshaping the radio industry,” it stated.

According to the organisers, artificial intelligence offers new possibilities for broadcasters, including content automation, audio editing, translation, news summarisation, audience analytics, personalisation and the creation of new revenue streams. However, they cautioned that innovation must be balanced with responsibility.

“However, these opportunities are accompanied by significant challenges, such as safeguarding journalistic integrity, ensuring data privacy, protecting intellectual property, and addressing algorithmic bias.”

They added that the Afrika Radio Business Mixer is designed to move the conversation beyond technology itself to focus on business sustainability and ethics.

“The Afrika Radio Business Mixer will convene radio executives, broadcasters, media entrepreneurs, advertisers, technology providers, regulators, and content creators to engage in high-level dialogue that goes beyond technology adoption,” the statement said.

It added, “The mixer will focus on monetization strategies, ethical considerations, and sustainable business models for radio in the age of artificial intelligence,”

“As digital disruption accelerates, the future of radio in Africa must be built on resilient business models that balance innovation with trust, ethics, and sustainability.”
