Abu Trica rearrested by NACOC immediately after being released

Popular figure Abu Trica has been rearrested by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) shortly after his discharge by the Gbese District Court on Monday.

The court had earlier discharged Abu Trica and two others, Lord Eshun and Bernard Aidoo, after they withdrew charges of defrauding by false pretence and money laundering.

Lead counsel for the accused persons, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, also confirmed the incident in a post on his X account.

“Just finished at the Gbese District Court.

Abu Trica and 2 others have been discharged. NACOC just tried to rearrest them inside the court room. Judge offended,” he wrote.

However, moments after the proceedings, operatives of NACOC moved to rearrest Abu Trica and he was taken to the NACOC headquarters.

Abu Trica and the 2 others had earlier been formally charged with conspiracy to defraud by false pretences and conspiracy to commit money laundering when they appeared before the Gbese District Court on December 23, 2025.

His initial arrest on December 11, 2025, followed a joint operation involving the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and several Ghanaian law enforcement agencies, including the Office of the Attorney-General, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Ghana Police Service, the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), the Narcotics Control Commission, and the Cyber Security Authority, after months of investigations.
