Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, has accused the Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST), Mr. Afetsi Awoonor, and his Deputy Managing Director, Adwoa Serwaa Bondzie, of inflating an arbitration settlement from about $800,000 to over $4 million.
According to him, an arbitration amount initially set at approximately $800,000 was later altered to more than $4 million.
Speaking on his show The Evidence on Onua TV, and monitored by NewsDesksGH, Abronye claimed that the BOST MD and his deputy travelled to Dubai for arbitration after a company called Jamina took BOST before an arbitration panel.
He explained that Jamina had signed a contract to supply oil to BOST but failed to deliver on time, a breach which should have led to the company paying compensation to the Government of Ghana.
However this did not happen. According to him, when the government transitioned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in January, Jamina allegedly engaged the BOST MD and Deputy MD and “connived” with them.
He further alleged that BOST had a solid defence they could have stood on, which was the beaching of contract terms by Jamina as the company failed in delivering products on time.
Abronye added that, despite Jamina being the defaulting party, BOST rather ended up before the arbitration panel in Dubai, where the company sought over 2.9 million AED, equivalent to about $815,000.
Abronye further revealed that the settlement amount which was initially the equivalent of around $800,000 eventually reached $4.1 million USD.
He accused Afetsi Awoonor and the deputy of colluding with Jamina to inflate the settlement figure.
Addressing President John Dramani Mahama directly, he claimed that the corruption cases that will be getting exposed from January will cause President Mahama to, “run and leave his appointees.“
“President Mahama, ask your managing director how was it possible for Janina company to go for arbitration in Dubai, and the award is 815,000 dollars, but when it got to Ghana BOST people have made it 4 million dollars.”
