The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed members engaging in parliamentary campaign activities ahead of the official opening of nominations to immediately cease such activities.
The directive follows what the party describes as activities being undertaken by some members with apparent parliamentary ambitions in various constituencies.
In a press release dated September 14, 2026, and signed by the NDC General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) said it had deliberated extensively on the matter before issuing the directive.
The party has cautioned members against organising or participating in meetings, engagements, tours, donations, public appearances or any other activities intended, or reasonably perceived, to promote or advance a parliamentary candidacy before the official opening of nominations.
According to the NDC, such premature campaign activities are inappropriate and could disrupt the party’s unity, cohesion and orderly functioning.
It warned that any member who disregards the directive would face disciplinary action and severe sanctions in accordance with the party’s Constitution, rules and regulations.
The NDC has also directed all Regional, Constituency, Branch and other party officers to ensure compliance with the directive and report any breaches to the appropriate party authorities.
The party said it remains committed to a transparent, orderly and credible process for selecting its parliamentary candidates.
It added that it would, at the appropriate time, officially communicate the opening of nominations and the applicable guidelines.
The NDC urged all members to respect the party’s established processes and remain disciplined in the interest of party unity.
