Mahama Announces Free Visa Entry for All Africans Starting May 25

John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana will introduce a free visa regime for all African nationals travelling to the country, with the policy set to take effect on May 25, 2026, to mark Africa Day.

The announcement was made during a state visit by Emmerson Mnangagwa, as President Mahama outlined plans to position Ghana as a leading hub for Pan-Africanism while boosting tourism and intra-African trade.

According to the President, the visa-free entry policy will be integrated into a broader e-visa system scheduled for rollout next month under his administration.

“I’m also pleased to announce that effective 25th May 2026, when we commemorate Africa Day, Ghana will commence a free visa regime for all Africans. Africans traveling to Ghana will receive their e-visas online free of charge,” he stated.

He further noted that Ghana and Zimbabwe already enjoy a visa-free travel arrangement, allowing citizens of both countries to travel freely without requiring entry permits.

President Mahama also indicated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will intensify efforts to secure additional visa waiver agreements to ease travel for Ghanaian passport holders across the continent.

Meanwhile, Ghana and Zimbabwe signed 10 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.
